If I am creating something I am happy...even if it doesn't work exactly as I want it, I enjoy the process. Hope you enjoy reading about what I do and sometimes don't do.Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.comBlogger96125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049717606699986206.post-67776388784992084892013-01-30T09:00:00.001-05:002013-01-30T09:00:20.943-05:00COMING BACKI'm planning a comeback to blogging again. I've missed reading posts and connecting with others. First thing I will have to do is relearn the pages and design elements. My homepage looks quite different with many of my lists not there. <br />
<br />
I have been doing a lot of quilting, a bit of remodelling and some reading. Back soon.<br />

I had some help this year with the budget from some online earning sites. I like several of them but I have to admit that I have a favorite. IGC which stands for Instant Gift Cards is the one I like and ususally do first each day. It is simple to do and has a great chat group right on the earnings page. Best of all, when you ear a card it is credited immediately. Some of the other takes up to a month to credit you. You might try it out. I make at least a dollar every day. Not a lot to some but it adds up. Here's the link if you want to try it out. And yes, if you sign up from that link, I get a little reward for that too. <span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: white; display: inline !important; float: none; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 12px/12px Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px;"><a href="http://www.instagc.com/35657">free money</a></span>Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049717606699986206.post-46059813126797816642012-04-25T11:01:00.002-04:002012-04-25T11:05:19.870-04:00NATURAL SEPARATION<div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed" id="id_4f981097ebf678694518659">
Today I’m going through old file folders and I’ve come to one labeled with my daughter's name. It’s messily fat. Open it up and lay a couple pictures aside and find this envelope, unglued from it’s seams and laid flat and filled with my hand-writing. Instantly I am sitting in front of her middle school waiting to pick her up when this revelation hits me and I have to write it down. No paper so I grabbed this <span class="text_exposed_show">envelope and tear it open to create a writing page. Now, what 15, 16 years later? The heart gripping panic still assails me. It was the moment of the beginning of the natural separation of my youngest and me. Here’s what I wrote:<br /> <br /> “I used to be able to spot my daughter as the whole school let out--by the turn of her head or the strut of her sturdy little body. Now she’s fourteen and when school lets out there must be 500 girls the same height and size, hair swinging the same length, either long and free or pulled back into a nape-of-the-neck pony tail; all dressed in the uniform they voluntarily wear. Faded pale jean shorts and long-tailed Tshirts emblazoned with sarcastic blurbs about “winning”, “having no fear” or “partying cold and naked.” Feet encased in costly athletic star-endorsed running shoes. I wonder if she didn’t come home one night--would I know what she had on to describe to the police? I used to dress her so I knew--not so anymore."<br /> <br /> It has been a long road of comings and goings but I know she'd survive very well if I were gone Home. That is comforting.</span></div>Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049717606699986206.post-8219751134726330092011-09-09T09:44:00.000-04:002011-09-09T09:44:14.974-04:00ENTERED IN CONTESTI'm entered in this weeks contest at <a href="http://quiltinggallery.com/">http://quiltinggallery.com</a> Quilts for Babies. <br />
I am in Beautiful Vermont where right now I am sitting in a hotel activity room looking out a window at a lovely covered bridge. The leaves are only just now getting a hint of color and next fall I am planning an October visit so I can get them in all their glorious splendor. Tomorrow my granddaughter exchanges wedding vows with her fiancee. Her mother, my daughter has remained remarkably calm. She does have a little bit of an illusion that everyone should quit being who they are and cave into to every bridal whim no matter how scattered...yeah, like that's gonna happen. It really has went very smooth for the most part. This morning when those sharing my room have risen, I will take over the room with the sewing machine to make the maid of honor's sash. You know the sewing person is the last to finish! Makes one very important...LOL <br />
<br />
I am so thankful for cell phones! It has untethered me to roam freely scouting out things others have no interest in...old Gramma things! They just call me a bit in advance when they are ready to do something and I can say "oh, go along without me on this one." or "I'll be there in a few minutes."<br />
<br />
Life is grand! Pictures soon.<br />

It was hanging on my design wall until I could get the stems and leaves pinned and sewn on. Mostly they were just pressed onto place. Well, one morning last week I got up to find the quilt on the floor and a couple of the stems in the kitchen and another in my husband's office.....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAS5Xjo9hclwfS0TAewazSH9iEElU3B4eyZJJNf1Bd6j7oF8gZF7V-lyFr26ZEW_ecMsJQCm6G2iaBtzMbHLm6tQVzOYL3GuF_zMIAYppnKxYNk9Ria4FHp45ZMH43Pa-FKoYiLNTglbo/s1600/A+nice+fit.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAS5Xjo9hclwfS0TAewazSH9iEElU3B4eyZJJNf1Bd6j7oF8gZF7V-lyFr26ZEW_ecMsJQCm6G2iaBtzMbHLm6tQVzOYL3GuF_zMIAYppnKxYNk9Ria4FHp45ZMH43Pa-FKoYiLNTglbo/s320/A+nice+fit.JPG" width="320" /></a>You might also remember this picture. Right from the very beginning, Snoops has loved pulling bits out of my sewing room and dragging them in to us to play. She's never taken anything off the design wall before, though. I wonder if maybe having the fan going caused the stems to wave a bit too temptingly for her.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKyUngY0w9ByoYJm82goA0FU7lIKGNSawCG0WEF7vGi79Tt23aDjRbXgfbK9MXgbLDfmJr9_KUxOt3GQdOf8e835Focvs3SSShn-7YhS-OzoYJpfVXo2K3P8J_IwbnSUW7oUdGu1JBVxM/s1600/The+Ring.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKyUngY0w9ByoYJm82goA0FU7lIKGNSawCG0WEF7vGi79Tt23aDjRbXgfbK9MXgbLDfmJr9_KUxOt3GQdOf8e835Focvs3SSShn-7YhS-OzoYJpfVXo2K3P8J_IwbnSUW7oUdGu1JBVxM/s320/The+Ring.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Another pic to remember. I'm heading out early, early in the morning to the wedding which is next Saturday. 9-10-11 That date should be helpful in remembering their anniversary. Can't believe my little granddaughter is getting married. I remember lots of other photos that would make it seem impossible and others that show that yep, she grew up! </div>Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049717606699986206.post-58328832579867256892011-08-28T10:21:00.000-04:002011-08-28T10:21:17.801-04:00BREAKING NEWS<div class="yiv1549845444ecxMsoNormal"><b><u><span _yuid="yui_3_1_1_3_131454097973878" lang="EN" style="color: black; font-family: "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">BREAKING NEWS</span></u></b><span lang="EN" style="color: black; font-family: "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">: </span></div><div class="yiv1549845444ecxMsoNormal"><span lang="EN" style="color: black; font-family: "sans-serif"; font-size: 14pt;">President Obama has just confirmed that the DC earthquake that occurred this past week is on a rare and obscure fault-line, apparently known as "Bush's Fault". I'm thinking I might like a baby quilt done with just pink, yellow, blue and mint pastel 36Ps. Or maybe mixed brights with a single contrasting color that reads solid. One thing I did different with my 36Ps was to make a 6 strip stripset and the subcut into the 2 1/2" alternating rows. It went really fast. Remember you can click on any picture to make it bigger and them click on your browser's back button to come back here. You can do that with any "blogger" blog, I think.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Used up a bunch of odds and ends with this. And cut the scraps into 2 and 2 1/2" squares for leaders and enders. All those blues will go well with the Quincy House quilts I'm making for my friend Tim. Those 7 quilts are coming together a bit at a time. I think my husband liked this one because he asked me who I was making it for. I might just have to make him his own or surprise him one day with his bed all made up (that alone would shock him) with a new quilt on top.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2uxuRSViteRzr8H3D1VtklwwkVqV-B9e_BfssjdY98LzTC1EBQwZU4Q-o0ykGebIXc7r-83yQ0pM1YqhqTTnu9MhW_gonJuVZ-BTrqiUegW7RaIBjgMQNCHtYhCWdtwO2BowAdFcPoEs/s1600/ShirtTailFinds.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2uxuRSViteRzr8H3D1VtklwwkVqV-B9e_BfssjdY98LzTC1EBQwZU4Q-o0ykGebIXc7r-83yQ0pM1YqhqTTnu9MhW_gonJuVZ-BTrqiUegW7RaIBjgMQNCHtYhCWdtwO2BowAdFcPoEs/s400/ShirtTailFinds.JPG" width="400" /></a>Stopped at a yard sale and picked up these 6 shirts for a quarter each. Don't you love that orange? And check out that RWB cotton curtain panel--50 cents! Fairly long chunk of fabric! It has a nice fat double hem that I'll be able to get 2 long strings out of and a even fatter double rod pocket that will net me four 2 1/2" strips. So often that would just be waste because of the stitching. Another bonus was the buttons on 2 of the shirts that are a kind I've been saving with a goal of getting a full quart saved of those buttons. I call them tortoise shell and my jar is nearly full. I started saving them when I was doing denim and flannel raggy quilts for our clothing boutique at my church. I love recycling stuff...it pleasures my soul and prospers my pocket book.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Life is truly abundant.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I've been using up some leftover 2 1/2" strips to put together some 36P's. They are fun and quick made with a stripset of 6 alternating strips subcut 2 1/2", flip every other one and stich them back together creating the checkerboard.</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> I think they are just a bit too much without something between them so I grabbed some 2 1/2" HSTs and squares and stitched them around a 4 1/2" center, and a 8 1/2" strip to each side and a 12 1/2" strip top and bottom to create the star block. I think it'll work. I'm planning 5 blocks across and 7 down. I can see now I need to do a few more of the really light colored squares to give it some balance. I'm liking that my 2 1/2" strip bin is emptying out. 50-60 more quilts should do it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhrXdOo7YLtFEEH5b4rxg6uADd8WQrEfbzxCGU26rfoTLfuAt7AkYHIgZ_nBnHAWx1Hivg892Mm1bWp7CAAvjJPyeLyA9xFIMmZzNZy_x3-Fb8jHaZstMR6MuZqpIA-KbwZYn-5_VYE-A/s1600/DSCN3931.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhrXdOo7YLtFEEH5b4rxg6uADd8WQrEfbzxCGU26rfoTLfuAt7AkYHIgZ_nBnHAWx1Hivg892Mm1bWp7CAAvjJPyeLyA9xFIMmZzNZy_x3-Fb8jHaZstMR6MuZqpIA-KbwZYn-5_VYE-A/s320/DSCN3931.JPG" width="320" /></a>Also had to make one of the Stacks blocks they've been talking about in Stashbusters. And of course, cut a few extra pieces to leader/ender them as I'm working on the 36Ps. This isn't doing much for the UFO challenge except adding to the list for next year but I'm enjoying myself. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Here's what's on the design wall. It's a D9P that was pretty but too little contrast so I decided to dress it up with some flowers. I still need to position some and stitch down the rickrack stems and leaves and it will be ready for sandwiching...unless I decide to do a border. Not sure if I will put the extra's on the back or make a small wall hanging with them.<br />

It's made with the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbTHlGGKMPM">10 minute block pattern</a> from Suzanne McNeill. It's a 3D bow tie that goes FAST and was fun to make. I used flannel and had this pair of near new jammies I'd never worn but liked the color of the dark plaid and the character on the shirt so put that in it. I backed it with Tshirt weight Jersey knit and wrapped the back around for the binding. I stitched around each of the 3D centers and did a straight stitch diagonal X on each block to complete the quilting. This is an incredibly soft quilt.<br />

It seems huge after all the baby quilts I made. I fell in love with it when I saw the one <a href="http://juliekquilts.blogspot.com/2011/07/plaid-string-quilt-along-part-next.html">JulieK</a> made and did it from memory. I might have done my blocks bigger cause as I said, it seems big and I don't have borders on it yet. I think Julie's had a piano key border. Not sure if I will add a border or not. It is big enough for me now. This is all made from recycled plaid shirts except for the white, which was cut from a bolt of solid that I have. I can't wait to get it quilted and on my bed cause I am keeping it for myself. Not sure what to use for the back, though. I do have some extra string blocks left that I could use. It is so big, it wouldn't fit on the design wall so I draped it over the recliner and table.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhayrvco3xO6p6FSkuYCeNHALAdMLBBOJY2Pzps8TCpaimG5_0DScQ_1LeXk5phhO3eYBzuv2cep1ZTEyv5KKV4_m4cZsMSaPMYk-Ivi48aMUJRzhoLN9gT-VZAVs_bxt5EbSXGH34uH4k/s1600/Plaid+Quilt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="371" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhayrvco3xO6p6FSkuYCeNHALAdMLBBOJY2Pzps8TCpaimG5_0DScQ_1LeXk5phhO3eYBzuv2cep1ZTEyv5KKV4_m4cZsMSaPMYk-Ivi48aMUJRzhoLN9gT-VZAVs_bxt5EbSXGH34uH4k/s400/Plaid+Quilt.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As I look at the picture, I think it does need at least a little bit of border. Those small outer 9Ps just appear to kind of hang there, don't they?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Kudos to her and Evelyn Sloppy for inspiring me to do this one.)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I've also been cutting and piecing a bit of Red, White and Blue and gold for the quilts I have promised to my friend for his Veteran's house. He is a Vet too and has bought a big older house that he and some other Vet's have been fixing up. They will have seven beds, (maybe 8 with his...I need to find that out) and I volunteered to make a quilt for each of them to honor my own brothers who also served during the Vietnam era and shortly thereafter. I really enjoy making these for other folks. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to think of someone cuddling all warm under one of my quilts.</div>Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049717606699986206.post-47404571504914473582011-07-11T11:58:00.000-04:002011-07-11T11:58:06.302-04:00AND THE WINNER IS...Nanato4!!! Anyway, let's just do this <strong><a href="http://maintainingmypiece.blogspot.com/2011/03/fabric-and-embellishment-giveaways.html">giveaway</a></strong>. I'm adding some more goodies to fill up the box and will draw the name on Saturday morning. You can check out all the details beginning <a href="http://maintainingmypiece.blogspot.com/2011/03/fabric-and-embellishment-giveaways.html"><strong>here</strong></a> .<br />
<br />
I'm looking forward to this fall. My granddaughter is getting married in Vermont and I'm thinking of a roadtrip come September. Anybody live around Burlington or Waterbury VT? Would sure love to visit with you thru emails.<br />
Got the quilts finished up and sent off to Japan, or at least to Marilyn in California and she has sent them all to Japan. My little group pieced 50 tops, I got 42 quilted and bound and sent the other 8 along to Marilyn who had a couple longarmer's finish them. Here's just 3 of my favorites.<br />
<br />

Remember ME??Yep, I am still around and all is well. I simply had a lot of committments all at the same time. The organizing project got put on hold while I played roulette with everything else. Finished up one project of making gifts for the Moms at church for Mother's day and everyone loved them. Not too many in my church group do sewing or other crafts but they enjoy what we do. Here's some pics of what we made. Had lots of fun with it.<br />
<div align="center"><br />
</div><div align="center">Click on any pic to make it bigger than use back button to return here.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNF4dqrlNrfehTMd1vqbxwSvCCBFIHc5Lpg6_LE0WdgiDV2yR8B12JsYMR47sSaZ79EORklSg099gRZ0BTvlkO8KF5_rodVoFBhzgpTa63LnGVMEcCjRDH7sIMr2V10Q-h92uq8NhHNA0/s1600/MothersDayCoasterSets2011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNF4dqrlNrfehTMd1vqbxwSvCCBFIHc5Lpg6_LE0WdgiDV2yR8B12JsYMR47sSaZ79EORklSg099gRZ0BTvlkO8KF5_rodVoFBhzgpTa63LnGVMEcCjRDH7sIMr2V10Q-h92uq8NhHNA0/s400/MothersDayCoasterSets2011.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Coasters in sets of four</div><br />

We sent our first 20 out last week and will have another 30 this week...<strong><em><u>late</u></em></strong> this week. And I will post some pictures later on all those.</div><br />
One good thing about these projects is that they are busting fabric stash so that is good for the organizing. I am going to add a few things to the giveaway...remember I said <em>while</em> I was organizing and <em>until</em> the box was full...you are such a patient bunch! LOL So......................<br />
Let's add some textures to the GIVEAWAY box. An eclectic lot here of rough, super soft, scratchy, slinky, super slick or smooth. Some would be great for roof tops, some for pathways or ground cover, maybe tree trunks or rock surfaces. Great for fabric postcards or other picture projects.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1jdfJ71o4Ky5UkUX7yogSL7iMtT9Gn9nKKoIcS7m3Z_Ryo7dR91FqZkS3PlICWvVFaUv13JhtRC8vDTJQvgi8Fhgj7W8opC7TmyAXAvugT6LGjP681bk57AJWJPTiClbd_5Q8wEBn-OE/s1600/Textures.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1jdfJ71o4Ky5UkUX7yogSL7iMtT9Gn9nKKoIcS7m3Z_Ryo7dR91FqZkS3PlICWvVFaUv13JhtRC8vDTJQvgi8Fhgj7W8opC7TmyAXAvugT6LGjP681bk57AJWJPTiClbd_5Q8wEBn-OE/s400/Textures.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Textures of the eclectic sort.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So that's the pic for the addition to the box today. Here's the <em>"now ain't that just the way it always goes." </em>for this organizing extravaganza. When I started <strike>hunting</strike> gathering fabric for the coasters, potholders and baby quilts, I put the giveaway box up so that it wouldn't get mixed in with these new projects and now I can't find it. It's here, I know it's here and I'll find it. The info on the giveaway starts <a href="http://maintainingmypiece.blogspot.com/2011/03/fabric-and-embellishment-giveaways.html">here</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Stay tuned.</div>Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049717606699986206.post-8094227704965674162011-03-24T10:42:00.002-04:002011-03-24T11:07:07.779-04:00WHEW! ADD THIS TO THE MIXWhat a whirlwind of a activity the last few days. Doesn't look like I have accomplished much but I really have. It's those things one does that only you realize have been done and to other's eyes it looks like you've just made more of a mess. Had to move some totes and fabric out of the sewing room into the hall to make room to move things around to get to other things....blah, blah, blah...you probably know what I mean. In the process I found some interesting sheer samples so I am adding them to the giveaway box. I can see these holding in place some little stones, metallic threads, sequins and other jewels to make a nice embellished prom clutch. How about a scrap book page to hold mini memento treasures? Here's a pic:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF0B6sR6d2s7_y5MkFtQX9OFjPHHR4nncCJYlM4Hgi5XdmB6ODiSbqTrePP-RrRjYFhfNNUUoMapnojnIQB9iHtUn3B9s2jJv6bv8uHUFldrHZVl0qNuk8y0Cg1TTBxMkVR3EdXdoTGBE/s1600/Day3SheersB.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF0B6sR6d2s7_y5MkFtQX9OFjPHHR4nncCJYlM4Hgi5XdmB6ODiSbqTrePP-RrRjYFhfNNUUoMapnojnIQB9iHtUn3B9s2jJv6bv8uHUFldrHZVl0qNuk8y0Cg1TTBxMkVR3EdXdoTGBE/s320/Day3SheersB.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I'm leaving the cardbord on them because it has the content info on them and I also have found that you can glue two of them back to back and make a pretty bookmark.<br />
<br />
Just for fun here's another addition...<br />

Our family surnames bear testimony to the English and German part and family stories flesh out the Indian strain but as yet I haven't run across any names preceded by an O' However, when I hear the likes of Daniel O'Donnell sing, my inner voice speaks for days after with a lilting Irish accent and I long to visit those green valleys and craggy hills. I'd like to walk the pastoral places and smell the heather that the word Ireland conjures up for me. In my dreams I've been there and run as a wee lass among the lambs and smelled cabbage and potatoes boiling on a hearth, tasted thick clotted cream and spread fresh butter on warm just out of the oven soda bread, The Ireland in my heart is the ancient Ireland where life was full but yearned for more peace, more prosperity. I gladly wear my green today and long to be home.</div>Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049717606699986206.post-30245109947213898852011-03-15T19:41:00.000-04:002011-03-15T19:41:04.851-04:00A REALLY NICE GIVEAWAY<a href="http://susanintexas.blogspot.com/2011/03/blogoversary-giveaway.html">Susan in Texas</a> is having a really good fabric giveaway. I have steadfastly resisted temptation to try out the long arm quilting machine set up in my local quilt shop. They ask me every time if I want to give it a spin because I always head right over there to look it over and gaze longingly at it, examining the practise stitches of others, wondering could I do that? would I do that? would it be worth the investment? I actually went in to buy a pigma pen to use for labels. The conversation started like this:<br />
<br />
"May I help you?"<br />
"Yes, I'm ready to shop for a quilting machine." A tiny part deep inside me recoiled with a faint "Who said that?"<br />
<br />
But the rest of me knew that <strong>I</strong> really am ready! My budget may not be ready, my sewing room may not be ready, but <strong>I </strong>am ready and that is the first part of making it happen. The first step to calling it in. <br />
<br />
When I put my hands to the machine and turned it on, I knew this is it. I am going to do it. That baby glided in my hands like an extension of me. I've never run a long arm before and I wrote words, I swirled, I feathered, I played and settled into a place I haven't <em>felt</em> part of for a long time. Somewhere along the way in the last ten years...and I won't bore you with the details of how it happened because I do know how it happened...but somewhere in there I lost the knowing of who I am. I didn't lose me, I was and always will be me, but I lost <em>knowing</em> the truth of it. I'd accepted a lie about myself. Funny how just taking a step like that can just fill your inner person with healing.<br />
<br />
Something spiritual was happening in that shop yesterday. The clerk went to the back and asked the owner to come up. She knew! She pointed out the name I'd written and said "She's ready for a machine." He looked at me. He knew! The three of us spent an hour talking about the machine, about quilting, about money and about how I'd be back. <br />
<br />
God will make a way where there seems to be no way.Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049717606699986206.post-73161374398878832392011-03-07T07:44:00.000-05:002011-03-07T07:44:39.399-05:00ANTICIPATION<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHUpTw7qWj6MPKQ74bX4VXdaSV9hmWKq6SBTjIX6Ug7qCUKePeis8hhavKT-tJdjN3AbsW7JBqlWpd1DV1w8yGI5w1-8DnN28Y7ZWoX474XnIGo-1X791kvkin1n1IsZ1t22697_H5hQk/s1600/flowering+almond+branch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" q6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHUpTw7qWj6MPKQ74bX4VXdaSV9hmWKq6SBTjIX6Ug7qCUKePeis8hhavKT-tJdjN3AbsW7JBqlWpd1DV1w8yGI5w1-8DnN28Y7ZWoX474XnIGo-1X791kvkin1n1IsZ1t22697_H5hQk/s400/flowering+almond+branch.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><span style="color: lime; font-size: large;"><strong>I woke up this morning with a feeling of anticipation. I imagine the reason is obvious.<br />
<br />
Thanks to Pat for the great instructions. Sometimes these quick little finishes are just what you need so you can return with enthusiasm to a big project.<br />
<br />
Oh yes, last week I made a single one at my sewing class just to show the gals how it goes and yesterday my youngest student asked to stay after to make a set. They took about a half hour for a set of four and that included cutting the squares. She was going to surprise her parents at the supper table. I didn't have my camera so will ask her mom to email me a pic of them and will post. Not thinking about it, she chose different green fabrics from our shelf and when we were finished we both said "St. Patrick's Day." It was funny. I think she is 9 now or maybe will be in April. Time keeps flying.Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049717606699986206.post-84162441395185032572011-02-28T08:40:00.001-05:002011-02-28T08:42:23.046-05:00A FEW NICE PICTURES<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwxmn8DD5CIRfymjSKsb8tEbnS_bl_Qi4odPkupE0t7SA9I8AQd2tpmLxyvQaB4wt_vFbFn4eVaI-5Zq1qmcd7IvFieMzzGwm-gcuTdLOhWWs-L5r8-XOA01CQQngSBV5qP138_pRye6E/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwxmn8DD5CIRfymjSKsb8tEbnS_bl_Qi4odPkupE0t7SA9I8AQd2tpmLxyvQaB4wt_vFbFn4eVaI-5Zq1qmcd7IvFieMzzGwm-gcuTdLOhWWs-L5r8-XOA01CQQngSBV5qP138_pRye6E/s320/016.JPG" width="320" /></a>This is a quilt that my brother and sister in law had hanging in the guestroom when I visited in December. She didn't reveal anything about it when I questioned her except that it was a family treasure. The head of the bed was against that wall so enjoyed sleeping beneath it. On the cedar chest against the other wall was a quilt I had made them many, many years ago. I couldn't help but wonder if it was put out just for my visit or if it was part of her daily decor. I was tempted but not quite rude enough to ask. Don't know why I didn't take a picture of it. Had a wonderful visit there and also fulfilled a dream to go into a lighthouse. My brother is the human resource director for one and took me there. My fear of heights caused my knees to buckle on the third landing and I had to forgo finishing the entire climb. Kyle was so sweet about it. He is a real gentleman...in spirit and in deed. It was healing to spend time with him.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia4k3aZmKOs3TcUH9_DdzBSreTajUGr3vNz9mudg8cd0ySm7pYBcgciJS8NjJXQOk_Sr9TzhEfzaqEyQygWxRnqI7CM1xncU5svaFtDdQpkaYHYl6MEbXxe2CCW3npJOqOU7QdwCe5HgM/s1600/021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia4k3aZmKOs3TcUH9_DdzBSreTajUGr3vNz9mudg8cd0ySm7pYBcgciJS8NjJXQOk_Sr9TzhEfzaqEyQygWxRnqI7CM1xncU5svaFtDdQpkaYHYl6MEbXxe2CCW3npJOqOU7QdwCe5HgM/s320/021.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiQ_Ap7HhEm8O66bvBicjAjvqcW5eCGDL71glxKziX8E4iRLp9B4fTtZDv0vriQ_qu3DnEZu94NLdFZwP4zpRgdL6aKBX_3DMJEdZ1lZGRUkkxP40NWvrBKDnlS5EoGBO34vKPHYYHZIg/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" l6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiQ_Ap7HhEm8O66bvBicjAjvqcW5eCGDL71glxKziX8E4iRLp9B4fTtZDv0vriQ_qu3DnEZu94NLdFZwP4zpRgdL6aKBX_3DMJEdZ1lZGRUkkxP40NWvrBKDnlS5EoGBO34vKPHYYHZIg/s320/013.JPG" width="239" /></a></div>Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049717606699986206.post-77494319783757970062011-02-26T07:25:00.000-05:002011-02-26T07:25:31.569-05:00KINDNESSPlease watch <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52AOPQvCTv4&NR=1">THIS</a> . It is inspiring.<br />
<br />
I hope this goes viral. <br />
A little more about it:<br />
<br />
There was an unusual high school football game played in Grapevine, Texas . The game was between Grapevine Faith Academy and the Gainesville State School . Faith is a Christian school and Gainesville State School is located within a maximum security correction facility.<br />
<br />
<br />
Gainesville State School has 14 players. They play every game on the road. Their record was 0-8. They've only scored twice. Their 14 players are teenagers who have been convicted of crimes ranging from drugs to assault to robbery. Most had families who had disowned them. They wore outdated, used shoulder pads and helmets. Faith Academy was 7-2. They had 70 players, 11 coaches, and the latest equipment.<br />
<br />
Chris Hogan, the head coach at Faith Academy , knew the Gainesville team would have no fans and it would be no contest, so he thought, “What if half of our fans and half of our cheerleaders, for one night only, cheered for the other team?” He sent out an email to the faithful asking them to do just that. “Here’s the message I want you to send,” Hogan wrote. “You’re just as valuable as any other person on the planet.”<br />
<br />
Some folks were confused and thought he was nuts. One player said, “Coach, why are we doing this?” Hogan said, “Imagine you don’t have a home life, no one to love you, no one pulling for you. Imagine that everyone pretty much had given up on you. Now, imagine what it would feel like and mean to you for hundreds of people to suddenly believe in you.”<br />
<br />
The idea took root. On the night of the game, imagine the surprise of those 14 players when they took the field and there was a banner the cheerleaders had made for them to crash through. The visitors’ stands were full. The cheerleaders were leading cheers for them. The fans were calling them by their names. Isaiah, the quarterback-middle linebacker said, “I never in my life thought I would hear parents cheering to tackle and hit their kid. Most of the time, when we come out, people are afraid of us. You can see it in their eyes, but these people are yelling for us. They knew our names.”<br />
<br />
Faith won the game, and after the game the teams gathered at the 50-yard line to pray. That’s when Isaiah, the teenage convict-quarterback surprised everybody and asked if he could pray. he prayed, “Lord, I don’t know what just happened so I don’t know how or who to say thank you to, but I never knew there were so many people in the world who cared about us.” On the way back to the bus, under guard, each one of the players was handed a burger, fries, a coke, candy, a Bible, and an encouraging letter from the players from Faith Academy .<br />
<br />
What an incredible act of Christian witness and kindness and goodness that was. Proverbs 11:17 says, “Your own soul is nourished when you are kind.” Proverbs 3:27 says, “Do not withhold good when it is in your power to act.”<br />
<br />
Be kind to someone this week. Be kind to every person you meet. You might be amazed at what God will do with a simple act of kindness.Cherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09784162298977761485noreply@blogger.com2
